The Movie. The first concert film to document the incredible meteroic rock and roll career of the original Lynyrd Skynyrd band is initially set to premiere at The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio on August 14. Freebird... The Movie will open in select markets including New York, Nashville, Dallas, Knoxville, Charlotte, Birmingham, Indianapolis, Luoisville, Norfolk, Pittsburgh, Raleigh, Greenville, South Carolina and Jacksonvile, Florida. For the first time in two decades, the original Lynyrd Skynyrd band will be seen in exclusive concert footage performing 15 classic songs performed at the 1976 Knebworth Fair in England, and in 1977, Asbury Park, New Jersey; Winterland Arena, San Francisco and Bill Graham's 'Day On The Green' in Oakland, California. Featuring the group's all-time hit songs 'Gimme Three Steps', 'Sweet Home Alabama' and 'Saturday Night Special', the film finishes with Lynyrd Skynyrd's signature anthem, 'Freebird'. The soundtrack has been digitally remastered on a sic-channel DTS system marking it as the first film ever to be recorded in this manner. MCA Music Inc. will release Freebird... The Movie soundtrack album nationwide to compliment the release of the film. Supplementing the concert footage, the film features personal home mvies from the families of the original band members. In addition, surviving band members Gary Rossington, Artimus Pyle, Leon Wilkeson and Billy Powell, as well as widows Judy VanZant and Teresa Gaines, offer their reflections on different aspects of Skynyrd's legendary career. According to Tom Molito, executive producer of the film, "Freebird... The Movie serves as a celebration of the songwriting and talent of this legendary band which continues to sell over one million albums a year. We are producing this movie for the countless numbers of fans who have waited almst two decades to see the original Lynyrd Skynyrd." Judy VanZant Jenness, widow of lead singer Ronnie VanZant and an executive producer of the film states, "This project has been my dream and obsession for the last five years.
